Aloha GWC families and young computer engineers- what a fun time we shared this morning! Thank you all so much for bringing great team attitudes today as we worked through our coding challenges. Today we focused on robotic engineering, physical movement to coding translation, and offered command block practice. Here's a quick recap of today's session!
Team Coding Station: Jumi Unicorn Bot building! Students worked in small teams to construct a robot. They practiced sharing resources and communicating effectively on this engineering task. Great job coders! The Jumi assembly instructions are available on the Jumi App for iOS.
Individual Coding Station: Our independent coding activities included Sphero Art and Scratch Bounce Paint! I will be emailing the tutorials for practice :)
Method to our madness!
For 2019 I have divided the instructional quarters into educational blocks to ensure we are building foundational coding skills.
JAN skills
Paint Editor, custom sprites and display blocks
Event-based sounds
Event-based lights
Event-based sprite animations
create numeric strings
Degree, speed, duration movement commands
Optical sensor training
FEB skills
Stack block commands (Pen block: Down block, Up block)
Look block commands (effect, size)
Control block command (speed, wait, when key pressed)
Sensing block command (directional pointing, if on edge)
Event block commands (when clicked)
Our coding activities will lean on the corresponding skills for the month. My aim to to keep coding FUN and keep students enthusiastic! :) with our club, that is easy!
GWC Party Time!
The students want to use their GWC Spring Club funds toward a PARTY! Let's celebrate our coding accomplishments together!
Spare Time (bowling & arcade) seemed to have the popular vote this morning. So let's plan it!
*Please watch for an email with tentative dates/times.
THANK YOU GWC FAMILIES! I truly enjoy our coding sessions and the students are so inspiring!
See you at the next session!
Remaining Feb GWC sessions:
